Lily's Vegetarian Kitchen

We decided to celebrate early mother's day with my mom together with my cousins and my uncle. As on mother's day we would go to Kampachi at Equatorial for Japanese buffet without my uncle, so we made up our mind to go to this famous vegetarian restaurant at Lorong Madras, Penang. Although we are meat eaters, my uncle is a vegetarian. So, this restaurant it's our final choice. I think sometimes it's good to become vegetarian, as it's good for our health. I always think that I would lose some weight after skipping one meal which is without meat. :)

My uncle loves to dine at this restaurant so much. There are 2 floors, they serve fast food at ground floor. You may find some noodles like curry mee, hokkien mee, laksa, etc. Or the Western style like fish & chips, mushroom soup, etc. Of course they are for vegetarians. At the first floor, they serve like the other restaurants. You could also book for wedding dinner, birthday celebration, etc.

We could find car park easily since the location is not at a busy street. We went upstairs straight as we did not want to have those fast food. Firstly, we ordered our favourite fruit tea. They put 2 tea bags with some slices of apple and lemons in the tea. The aromatic smell always makes me drooling. I remember last time they did put some slices of watermelon in the tea but this time they did not.

Fruit Tea

This is highly recommended. Must Try!
When my uncle and my cousins came, we ordered a few dishes like vegetable with 3 different kinds of mushroom, rendang, butter prawns, hai tai soup (with seaweed, bean curd), yam ring, and Lily's tofu. I personally like the rendang so much. Rendang meat was not using real meat, but the taste was as good as our normal non-vegetarian rendang. It's best to serve with steamed rice. Beside steamed rice, we also ordered 2 plates of nasi ulam. The nasi ulam was so nice, smelled so good and delicious. It so good to be eaten alone!

The three kinds of mushrooms came in a very tasty sauce. Mushroom is always a good choice for a vegetarian. The meat of the rendang also made from the mushroom. Butter Prawn taste was exactly the same as our seafood butter prawn but this was also not real prawn. However, the nestum that they used and the curry leaves made the whole dish so yummy! The Lily's tofu a little bit out of expectation. As I always have very good tofu near my house. But it's still acceptable. Must dip with the chilli sauce for better taste. Well, I know we are Penangites, so we take spicy food. Therefore, chilli padi is a must on our dinning table :)

(Don't get confused, this is not real prawn)

Lily's Tofu (Bean Curd)

The yam ring was basically made by yam and filled with some vegetables and mushrooms. Finally our healthy soup, seaweed soup. Seaweed has long been a nourishing, healthy staple of Japanese cuisine. It is also rich in vitamin A & C, calcium and iodine. Therefore, seaweed soup always becomes our first choice.

I was expecting vegetarian food should be not expensive. But, our bill came out at RM145. Well, since it's a meal for 7 persons, so I think it's acceptable.

The fruit tea looks very tasty. I could go for a big tall glass right now, especially with the heatwave we're having here now. ;)

These dishes all look wonderful but the rendang meat was my favorite - I can almost taste it! But your brief mention of curry mee has made me so hungry!

Do not go to LILY'S VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT.
I have been cheated. I ordered Thai Koay Teow(Pad Thai), but they sent me the fried Koay Teow with soya sauce and basil leave. Is this call Pad Thai in Penang?? If the chef DON'T KNOW what is Pad Thai. DO NOT put in your menu.
Pad Thai is Koay Teow fried with Pad Thai sauce!!!! NOT SOYA SAUCE!! Go to one of Thai restaurant and try before you serve Pad Thai.

@tony: oh really?! i never ordered ala carte stuffs so i don't know about that. will take your advice for that. thanks a lot :)
