Custard Apple (Buah Nona) from Taiwan 台湾释迦

I love all kinds of fruits. Especially those from Taiwan. If you have tasted before, you would remember for your whole life.

Last year when I traveled to Taiwan, found this custard apple. It looks like our custard apple in Malaysia but the size is double of what we have here. Ok, the size is not important, the vital part is that it is so sweet, and the meat is thicker. Juicy as well. Less seeds.

Taiwan fruits are always very sweet , juicy & tasty. Apart from the weather, I believe they have improved the technology that being used for their agriculture. When you make a trip to Taiwan, remember to try their fruits, you would not regret although you pay a little bit higher than what we pay in Malaysia.

Did not take any pictures while I tasted this custard apple in Taiwan last year. But my friend from Taiwan visited me last month and brought me this. I was so happy to taste it at home.

I kept the seeds and planted at home. Now, the sprouts have been out. When my tree is big enough and have fruits, I would harvest and sell in the market for this Taiwanese Custard Apple :)

The outlook of the custard apple is about the same as what we have here.

New Boston Restaurant (Restoran Boston Baru) @ Klang

Found this well-known restaurant ( more like a coffee shop ) at Jalan Kapar, Klang. My cousins who stay at Shah Alam brought us there for dinner. It's not far from Shah Alam, only about 15 minutes drive. Since only 4 of us, we did not order much.

Personally, I think the Tai Luk Mee here is better than the Tai Luk Mee at Petaling Street. Of course, a lot more pork lards were added here. Anyway, I love the lards which made the whole plate of noodle so nice and smells good! Hokkien Mee is a ' must-not-miss' food when one visits to Kuala Lumpur. Can be easily found anywhere in Kuala Lumpur or Klang valley. Very affordable street food. Some would come with big prawns. So, after introducing so much, we decided to order this delicious Hokkien Mee there in this Boston Baru Restoran, in English, it's called New Boston Restaurant.

Basically we ordered seafood the most. We ordered a curry sting-ray. But unfortunately, someone stole a bite already and had ruined my whole plan. Sorry for that~ Will beware next time. In short, the seafood here is quite tempting, try it out!

Tai Luk Mee大碌面/Hokkien Mee福建面

Look at this Tai Luk Mee or Hokkien Mee, if you are from overseas, you should not miss this. Even locals like this so much .

Steamed "Lala" 清蒸"啦啦"
This steamed lala with lots of soup is so yummy that we all finished the soup as well as the la-la. The cook has added some white wine into it but do not worry, you would not get drunk. Some chili padi were added to make it a little bit spicy. No problem, even a kid can stand the spicy taste.

Mantis Prawn with Butter & Corn 奶油濑尿虾
Children love these mantis prawns a lot. If you bring children with you for dinner, make sure you order this. They would happily sit down and eat quietly.
Mantis Prawn with butter and corn is my favourite but then mantis prawn with salted egg yolk is a good try too.

Fried squids is also one of the children's favourites.

This is 'Nestum' mantis prawn. The mantis prawns cooked with corn flakes. I love this one!

Cuttle Fish & Water Convolvulus 鱿鱼蕹菜
While waiting for your ' main course' , you could order this cuttle fish+water convolvulus ( kangkung) as an appetizer. The prawn paste and the peanuts on it would make the cuttle fish more tasty.

Koay Teow Th'ng / Koay Teow Soup @ Lebuh Hutton 粿条汤

Was thinking to have a light breakfast this morning, did not want to take curry mee or anything fried. So, went to this coffee shop which is at the cross-junction of Lebuh Amoy ( Amoy Lane ) and Lebuh Hutton ( Hutton Lane). Its famous Koay Teow Th'ng always make me think of having one bowl. This fresh flat rice noodles are cooked in clear soup broth and topped with duck meat, sliced pork and fish balls. You may ask for intestine if you like to.

This is a famous Penang hawker food, you would not miss it if you come to Penang as it is easily found every corner of Penang including in the wet market or coffee shops. Very common for Penangites.

Indian Noodles & Wanton Mee at Lorong Bangkok (Bangkok Lane)

Lorong Bangkok is famous for its mouth-watering Indian Noodles. Indian noodles is a popular hawker food in Penang. At Pulau Tikus, Penang, there is a lane which is still full of old houses but in nice design and in good condition, that is Lorong Bangkok or Bangkok Lane.

The cook is frying my Indian noodles. I am waiting impatiently~~~

Yummy Indian Noodles
Remember to squeeze the lime onto your noodles. It will be more delicious.

Most of the people know this lane because of the well-known Indian Mee Goreng. This business has been passed to their second generation. You will be surprised that the 'cook' can understand and speak hokkien. I like to order a plate of Mee Goreng which is more spicy.

You can add cuttle fish to your Mee Goreng too. I am a big fan of Mee Goreng, if you know any other good Mee Goreng, please do leave me a comment.

Beside the coffee shop, there is a stall which sells Wanton Mee. Although it is not as well-known as the one at Argyll Road but this one is equally tasty. I love the noodle. Normally the Wanton Mee is taken with the pickled chilli. It's not hot, but the taste is good.

My favourite too - Wanton Mee
If the " wanton" is as good as the one in Canton-I, then it would be perfect. But of course we know it would not be sold at RM2.50 per plate anymore :)

Pickled chilli

I think these houses have been playing an important role to make Penang as a Unesco World Heritage. The good thing is that all the elegant houses in this lane have been well-kept in tip top condition.

Opps!! I also found there an " antique car" in the garage. Very rare ar?!

Farlim Shell Station Laksa Cafe

FARLIM SHELL STATION LAKSA CAFE

Address: Medan Angsana 4, Bandar Baru Air Itam, 11500 Penang, Malaysia.
Contact: 016-459 7179
Opening Hours: 11.00am – 7.00pm (Close Alternate Tuesday)

Penang Asam Laksa
This is our famous Laksa in Penang. I personally feel this one is better than the one near Kek Lok Si Temple. (Not trying to be offensive, personal opinion only!)

You can find big pieces of fish meat in the laksa soup. With some chilli padi, the soup is so yummy. I love to add more vege into my Laksa. They also serve Spring Rolls. What we do is to dip the spring rolls into the Laksa soup. It's so yummy that we cannot stop taking.

This stall was last time in front of the Shell station at Farlim but now they have moved to this shop which you can take not only Laksa but also some desserts like " Ching Po Lueng" which is mixed with jelly, red beans, canned logan or rambutan, in syrup. Local people love Laksa but for foreigners, they normally cannot withstand the prawn paste. My Taiwanese friends love to take laksa without prawn paste. Well, if you have any chance to visit Penang, no matter you are from Malaysia or overseas, should give it a try. At least this is something very typical Penang hawker food.
